Station OPSmods

Stations play two roles in operations: freight and passenger. First, freight trains will often stop at stations to receive new Train Orders. Passenger trains stop at stations to board/detrain passengers, swap mail bags with the station postal clerk, and send and receive express freight shipments. In practice, both types of stops will be quite brief so as to not foul the mainline. Each Track Warrant will specify at which stations the train should stop. The new Train Order, folded inward, can be stapled, to the Track Warrant. When the train arrives at the correct station, the Train Order will be removed, unfolded, and read. Most likely the Train Order will suggest a change in the next planned set-out or pick-up.

Note: this is a standard single (310mm) module. No attempt is made to move the Yellow Line. Trains on the Yellow Line will not stop. Modeling will have to show both freight and passenger service on the Red Line.
Note: the double width allows the Yellow Line to be moved towards the back. It should be possible to show both freight and passenger service on the Red Line, or perhaps, also have some service on the Yellow Line. A triple width would allow the Yellow Line to moved back even further.

A station should be included on most of the larger OPSmods when it can fit. This inclusion will allow for much richer operations.

Do you need help designing or building an OPSmod? Send an email to: bob@gvrrclub.org. We need many model railroaders to build OPSmods if we are to have true prototypical operations.
